Nancy is now at home with Jesus, her Lord and Savior, after a long and well lived life.?She passed quickly of heart failure in her home.
As you may have guessed, Nancy wrote this. Born in Virginia in 1928, she never lost her love for her family, culture, beauty, and southern food. She graduated from the college of William and Mary. She was a Kappa and met her future husband, Dr. George Fricke. After med school in Chicago, they moved to California. As a young family with 4 babies in 6 years, George started his own Ob-Gyn practice in Sacramento.
Nancy’s concern for the elderly and her love for writing and teaching came together as she went back to work and to graduate school in 1977. She attended the Andrus School at USC while working on her PhD and earned her master’s at CSU Sacramento. Her thesis was on programs for older adults. Her new career began in prevention (setting up Senior Centers with Adult Education for health and good aging). The last 18 years of her work was at Bruceville Terrace as a Volunteer Coordinator. She retired at age 78 having involved the community, particularly the youth, in adding to the quality of life for the frail and elderly . As a writer, Nancy has written numerous poems and published six books. She used her interest in her work with the elderly as cognitive therapy.
Her first love has always been as Mother for her children, George (deceased), Jane and Janet Fricke and Susan Anapolsky (Mark). The grandsons, Jason, Joshua, Matthew Anapolsky (Nicole) and Stephen Fricke-Carpenter got lots of hugs and back rubs. She adored and respected her nieces and nephews: Jane Raish, Nancy Cartwright, Richard, and Tommy Wilkinson.
Awards received by Nancy: DAR Citizenship Award at Martinsville High School. PHT (putting husbands through med school) PTA Award from Kennedy High School; County Commission on Aging; Represented California White House Conference on Aging and served on the panel at California State Conference on Aging.
