We lost an amazing man this year, Michael Steven Sabo born December 18, 1938 and passed away in his beautiful home surrounded by his loving family on August 6, 2019.
Mike was an incredible husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather and an important member of the Elk Grove community. Professionally, Mike served in law enforcement for 44 years, first as an officer with the California Highway Patrol for 27 years beginning his work in Los Angeles and then later in South Sacramento. After retirement from the Highway Patrol, Mike spent another 17 years as an officer with California Exposition & State Fair Police. Mike loved working the California State Fair and the Race Track. Mike was a dedicated lifetime member of the Elk Grove Elk's Lodge #2577 and played a major role in the establishment of the Lodge's successful rental and commercial kitchen endeavors. Mike was also a proud member of the American Legion Post 233 and a member of the Honor Guard. His love for cooking for large groups, camping with his friends and family and telling the best stories and funniest jokes will be missed by so many.
Mike is survived by his loving wife, Jane Sabo, and his daughters Valerie Bahr (Greg), Samantha Sabo (Chris), Amanda Sabo, his son Rick Sabo (Lisa) and his loving sister Millie Zika (Bob) and many nieces and nephews. Mike has 8 amazing grandchildren and one great grandchild. Mike is reunited in heaven with his parents John and Josephina Sabo, his older brothers Veto, Frank and John and his beloved eldest son, Bill Sabo. We thank the good nurses of Kaiser Permanente Hospice whose loving care and support helped to make Mike's final journey bearable.
On September 6, 2019 Mike will be interned at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon at 1:30pm. A celebration of life is being held on September 7th, 2019 from 1:00-4:00pm at the Elk Grove's Elks Lodge. All are welcome to come and share a special memory of Mike.
