Julie A. Underwood, 63, a long time resident of Rancho Murieta, died June 10, 2019 due to complications from cancer.
She was born in Los Angeles, California on January 2, 1956. The daughter of Frank Arredondo, Julie was raised in the San Diego area, graduating from Helix High School in 1974. She began work in Banking, but soon found herself doing administrative assistance work for a variety of companies. She met her husband, Randy, at PDA Engineering in 1983, where she worked as secretary, and he worked as a young software engineer. They married in 1986 and moved from Southern California to Elk Grove in 1990.
In 1993, they were blessed with a son, Ryan, and started looking for a more tight-knit community in which to raise him. They were initially hesitant when they found Rancho Murieta, fearing the demographics would be too old for raising a child. But, they really liked what they saw in the community, and decided to take a leap of faith and give it a chance. They moved there in 1999, and haven't had a single regret. Quite the opposite - they embraced the community, which embraced them right back. They truly loved everything the community had to offer, from golf to the lakes to the trails to Summerfest to baseball, and most of all the 4th of July celebration. But beyond the activities, it's the people that Julie loved the most. They wanted a tight-knit community, and did they ever find one. Over the next twenty years, they formed so many unbelievable friendships that Julie cherished so dearly. She and her family feel truly blessed to have found such a great place.
Seeing an opportunity to stay close to Ryan, Julie pursued a career in education, and managed to work her way into the Elk Grove Unified School district. She worked mostly in administration in a variety of schools, eventually settling in at Albania Middle School, where most Rancho Murieta kids attend. In that capacity, she formed bonds with hundreds of kids and parents along the way. It was truly remarkable to see how these kids, as they become young adults, greet her whenever they would meet by chance. Simply put, everyone loved her to death, and the feelings were mutual.
Julie is survived by her husband of 32 years, Randy; son Ryan; step mother Eva; sisters Barbara Clark, Diana Link (Tom), Elena (Al); and brother Frank Arredondo (Connie); dear friends Heidi, Kris, Amber, and so many others. She was preceded in death by her father Frank.
She will be missed dearly by family and friends and remembered fondly by all who knew her for her sweet, generous, and loving spirit. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Cancer Society.
A private service will be held for family and close friends.
