John Andrew Kanelos

John Andrew Kanelos passed away peacefully on September 3, 2019 in Rancho Cordova, CA. Born in Florin, CA on February 23, 1925 to Andrew and Zina Kanelos, John was the eldest of four brothers. 

He attended Elk Grove High School and enlisted in the Army Air Force in 1943 where he flew fifty-two bombing missions over Romania, Italy, South Africa, France, Germany and Greece. He was the lead radio operator for his squadron and was awarded the Merit of Honor by the Commanding General of the 15th Air Force. He also  received the Certificate of Valor for his unfaltering  courage, and was honorably discharged from service in 1945. He returned to Sacramento where he opened Kanelos Truck Sales, the business he ran until retirement. He spent the majority of his remaining years residing in Elk Grove, CA.

John is survived by his brother, Sam, sisters-in-law, Billee Jean and Loretta, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by wife Ruth, and brothers George and Gus. A special thanks to his  caregivers - Valentina, Nicky, Jean and Tameka - for their exceptional attentiveness and kindness the final year of his life.

A private burial will take place at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, CA.
