Einar E. "Pete" Petersen, Jr.

Einar E. "Pete" Petersen, Jr., affectionately known as Ranie to family and close friends, passed away on October 17, 2019 at the age of 79, following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Born Feb 19, 1940, in Everett, MA to Mary and Einar Petersen, Sr., he spent his formative years growing up in Long Beach, CA. As a young man, Pete proudly served in the U.S. Army, stationed at Fort Polk, LA, working as a company clerk. Pete met his future wife Nancy Miller on a blind date; they were married on his birthday in 1965, and enjoyed 54 loving years together. His 38 year career was spent in the telecommunications industry in various roles, beginning at GTE in southern California. In 1971, he moved his family north to Elk Grove where he went to work for Citizens Utilities. He retired as a planning engineer from Frontier Communications in 2003.

Before the Alzheimer's began affecting his daily life, he was quick with a joke, and loved working on projects around the house. He enjoyed music, crossword puzzles, golf, bike riding, tending his garden, and traveling the world on adventures with Nancy--Hawaii being one of their favorite destinations, and he absolutely loved a good party.

Preceded in death by his parents, Pete will be lovingly remembered by his wife and best friend Nancy, children Erin Powell (James), Kelly Czigler (Eddie), and Erik Petersen (Jill), brother Gary Petersen (Donna), sister Donna Jones, his grandchildren Taylor Petersen, Emily and Nicholas Powell, Samantha Czigler, and Carson and Sylvie Petersen, cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

While Pete will be dearly missed on this Earth, his mind and body are now free from the burdens of this cruel disease. Our gracious thanks to his many wonderful in-home caregivers and those at California Care Homes. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Interment will be held November 5 at 1:00 p.m. at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon. A celebration of Pete's life will follow the same day at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Elk Grove from 4:00-6:00 p.m.
