A resident of Elk Grove for over 42 years, EDWARD FRANK COMERFORD, 73, died in his home on 1/22/2019. Edward was born in Chicago, IL on 7/13/1945, the oldest of four children.

He is survived by Mary Pat, his loving wife of 38 years; his mother Dorothy; brother Thomas (Deborah); daughters Tammy, Mishelle, and Donna; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother John, sister Karen, and father John.

Edward was medically retired from the 82nd Airborne, US Army, after a devastating car accident while travelling back to Ft. Bragg, North Carolina in November 1964. He lived the rest of his life as a paraplegic and refused to let himself be defined or limited by his disability. He inspired other spinal-cord-injured veterans to deal with their challenges in the same manner.

He was an avid reader, wonderful storyteller and sharp game player. He spent hours working with his dad fabricating parts and tools to modify our home and equipment.

He proudly served on the Board of Directors of the Bay Area and Western Chapter of the Paralyzed Veterans of America for many years.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bay Area and Western Chapter of the PVA, P.O. Box 27, Palo Alto, CA  94304-0027
