Donald Everett Nelson

Donald Everett Nelson, 71, died Monday, July 1, at his home with his wife and children by his side.

Don was born August 10, 1947 in Bakersfield, CA to George and Florence Nelson. After high school, Don joined the United States Air Force serving in the Vietnam War. Later becoming a sergeant with the Sacramento Sheriff's Department where he spent 37 years before retiring. Don spent his retirement volunteering at Project Ride, where he then joined the board of directors. Don held this title very near and dear to his heart. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and spending time with his family.

Don is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Diann, and his children Toshia (Bryan) Matt (Katie) Mike (Jamie) and Whitney (Kevin) He also is survived by his 10 grandchildren, Hunter, Dillon, Belle, Matthew, Emily, McKenzie, Harlow, Emma, Hunter, and Gunner. As well as his sister Sherrie (Ray) Steiber, and numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Dons Birthday, August 10, at 11 AM at Project Ride Arena. 8840 Southside Ave, Elk Grove, Ca 95624. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Project Ride  http://www.projectride.org/give/ (Tax ID#94-2778565)
