John Chandler’s mugshot

DUI, police resistance suspect identified as teacher

New details emerged last week on the 54-year-old suspect who allegedly drove while intoxicated and attempted to spit at Elk Grove police officers on May 6.

John Chandler of Elk Grove was identified as a physical education teacher at Martin Luther King Jr. K-8 School in Sacramento.

Elk Grove police arrested him on DUI and police resistance charges around 10 p.m. at the 9400 block of Elk Grove Boulevard in the East Elk Grove area.

Officers were notified about a DUI suspect at the scene and they later reportedly found Chandler sitting in the described vehicle with its engine running. Elk Grove police spokesperson Jason Jimenez said that they determined he was intoxicated and he allegedly resisted them.

Authorities said that the suspect tried to spit at officers when they attempted to detain him. He was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail. Chandler was later released from custody, according to jail records.
