Jerry Strong, a prominent Elk Grove community member of many decades, died at age 80 on April 9. He was a descendant of Franklin pioneers, a longtime Elk Grove volunteer firefighter, and a dedicated supporter of Project R.I.D.E., which offers horseback therapy for disabled students. An Elk Grove park was dedicated to him and his wife Jeanne in 2000. The Cosumnes Fire Department shared this photograph of Cosumnes firefighters who voluntarily took Strong home from a hospital the day before he passed away. A memorial will be held at Strong Park at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 22. A procession will then be held at Hilltop Cemetery, 9420 Waterman Road. There will be a celebration of Strong’s life at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 23 at the Project R.I.D.E. Arena, 8840 Southside Ave. A late lunch and early dinner will be served. Strong Park is located at 9580 Baypoint Way, near the corner of Elk Grove Boulevard and Waterman Road.
