A meeting of our citizens was held Thursday evening and a committee chosen to arrange for the grand 4th of July celebration in Elk Grove this year.

M.A. Mitchell, pres. and mgr.; Geo. Markofer, sec.; W.E. Foster, treas.

President and manager was instructed to name executive committee and asked for time to make selections. Later he appointed Dr. H. Beattie, Geo. Markofer, Luther Howard, D.J. Stevens and E.E. Barry to act and call a meeting at M.A. Mithell’s (sic) office this evening.

Ehrhardt & Rhoades have several good, second hand windmills for sale cheap. Write or call and see them.

The Elk Grove Citizen is on sale at the post office. The postmistress will also take your subscription. Pay up for a year and help along the good work of supporting a live paper.

June 2, 1949

St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Carson City was the setting for the marriage of Carol Louise McAllister and Louis Alfred Zehnder Wednesday, May 25.

The newlyweds honeymooned at Lake Tahoe and are residing in Elk Grove.

Exercises for the class of 1949 will be held at the grammar school on Thursday evening, June 9th at 8 o’clock.

As usual, the public will be welcome to the graduation, with the usual limitation in seating facilities.

Bob Moynahan struck out Harry Dunlop with the bases filled in the ninth inning to check a Manahart rally and give Florin an 8 to 6 Junior Legion win Saturday at Edmonds Field (in Sacramento).

June 4, 1969

Voters in the Elk Grove Unified School District will be going to the polls Tuesday to vote on a proposed 75-cent tax override.

A citizen’s (sic) committee, headed by Howard Wackman, earlier in the year porposed (sic) the 75-cent tax override after looking into school finances.

The Elk Grove 4-H float was invited to take part in the Golden Spike Centennial Parade in Sacramento, May 8. It took third in the Unusual Division.

Kent Fossgreen, Sandy Scherman, Jeannie Horrigan, David Kammar, Naomi Watkins, Sharon and Reon Parker carried the E.G. and 4-H banners.

The E.G. 4-H float also won first place in the Junior Division of the Western Festival and (was) the first group to win the Barbara McDaniel trophy.

Baccalaureate services for Elk Grove Senior High School will be held at 8 p.m. Sunday, June 8 in the Elk Grove Senior High School gym.
