Jaclyn Moreno, a candidate for the Cosumnes Community Services (CSD) board, announced a major endorsement on June 30. She’s now supported by the Sacramento Area Firefighters Local 522, which represents Cosumnes firefighters.
“I am gratified for their trust and I will work to ensure they have the equipment and resources necessary to keep the residents of our district safe,” Moreno said in a June 30 press statement.
The CSD board governs fire and emergency medical services for Elk Grove and Galt as well as Elk Grove’s parks and recreation system. Two board seats are up for election this November.
Local 522 Cosumnes District Vice President Chris Schamber told the Citizen that Moreno visited all of the CSD’s fire stations and she joined ride-alongs with firefighters.
“I believe she understands the critical issues that the CSD is currently facing, and is willing to take action to ensure the safety of the community,” he said.
The Local 522’s endorsement has been a key for many successful CSD candidates in the past. This union has offered contributions as well as door-to-door campaigning in neighborhoods.
“Jaclyn shares another goal of our firefighters, which is to hire the most qualified and competent recruits in our future academies, while making a concerted effort to promote a diverse workforce that can best represent our community,” Schamber said.
He said that the Local 522 is in the process of endorsing a second CSD board candidate. They plan to announce their endorsements for the Elk Grove and Galt city council races in the near-future, he said.
Moreno is among four candidates currently running for the CSD board. Others are incumbent Rod Brewer, Jerry Braxmeyer, and Koi Rivers. Board President Rich Lozano announced this winter that he is not seeking re-election and he will instead run for Galt City Council.
