Good Samaritan

Cosumnes Fire Department officials honored an Elk Grove resident and a fire crew for saving lives during unusual incidents. They were presented awards during the Cosumnes Community Services District board’s Feb. 6 meeting. Jeff Garrett (center-right) received an award for rescuing three people from a burning vehicle near his backyard last October. He climbed over his backyard wall to help the victims soon after he woke up around 5:30 a.m.  Left: An Engine 73 crew received a Company Citation award for saving a patient who fell from a parking garage at the Kaiser Permanente South Sacramento Medical Center in 2017.  They treated and transported the patient to the hospital’s trauma center in less than 10 minutes after being alerted.
