Plans to be reviewed for gas station’s return
Old Town station burned down last spring

The owner of an Old Town Elk Grove gas station that burned down last spring is taking steps to have his business rebuilt.
A fuel fire broke out on March 1 inside the auto shop at the Shell station on the corner of Elk Grove Boulevard and Elk Grove-Florin Road. Five employees evacuated the service station without injury.
Now the owner wants to rebuild the station. The Elk Grove Planning Commission is reviewing the project plans at their Feb. 2 meeting.
Planning staff wrote in a staff report that the proposed facility’s design elements complements the “character” of properties including the library across the street.
The proposed facility is expected to look similar to the previous service station with the same number of parking spaces, gas pumps, and entrance/exit options. The size of the building will be the same as before the fire. A physical difference will be the two service bays compared to the previous three.
Another item on the commission’s agenda is potential approval of a tentative parcel map for the Sheldon Farms project, which is a property nearly 80 net acres in size at the southeast intersection of Bruceville and Sheldon roads.
The applicant, who is among multiple owners of the property, is requesting that the land be divided into two parcels. The applicant will be the sole owner of 9.62 net acres while the other owners will share possession of the 69.53-net-acre property.
Commissioners are also poised to approve the revised “Rules of Conduct” and clarify when reorganization of the commission should take place each year.
The commission historically elected a new chair and vice chair every June. In 2007, however, a new chair was nominated in December of that year when the previous chair resigned.
Commissioners continued with nominations in December 2008 and 2009, but they delayed action in 2010 until Elk Grove City Council members had a chance to reappoint the commissioners or appoint other people.
If the revised rules and procedures document is approved, the reorganization of the commission will take place the second meeting of January each year. The commission meeting scheduled for Jan. 19 was cancelled.
The Planning Commission meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 2 in the Elk Grove City Council chambers at 8400 Laguna Palms Way.
