Efforts are moving into high gear to create an Elk Grove Time Capsule to celebrate the establishment of cityhood.

The first donation to help sponsor the time capsule effort was made Dec. 8, when committee president Jim Entrican donated $250 to the sponsorship fund. The time capsule, when completed, will be installed in the Elk Grove City Hall.

Jacqui Langenberg, who chairs the group’s planning session, said that a wish list of items is being formulated to include in the capsule. She is a management analyst for the city of Elk Grove.

The Elk Grove Historical Society sponsors the Time Capsule project. Among the agencies supporting the effort is the Elk Grove Old Town Foundation.

Time Capsule Committee members are chair Jacqui Langenberg, Jim Entrican, Joe Fabel, Dennis Buscher, Patrick Larkin, Elizabeth Pinkerton, Pollyanna Cooper-Le-Vangie, Sarah Johnson, Arnie Zimbelman, Howard Sihner, Mai Nguyen, and Susan McDonald.

The project is designed to salute the 10-year anniversary of Elk Grove’s founding. Entrican pointed out Elk Grove was the first city in California to incorporate in the 21st century and in July 2010 will celebrate its 10th anniversary of cityhood.

Langenberg said the Elk Grove Time Capsule Committee invites residents to share their experiences and memories by participating in the 10th Anniversary Time Capsule. She said suggestions for the wish list are especially welcome.

Among the items suggested so far are a list of children born in Elk Grove in 2000, the year’s minted coins, Elk Grove history, nostalgia, citywide statistics, such as average income and population changes, and recipes and menus from local restaurants. The time capsule will measure 15 inches by 18 inches by 24 inches.

Entrican said the Elk Grove Historical Society invites residents to help support the project financially. He said the Gold Level contribution is $1,500 and will include an engraved name or company logo along with other promotional information.

The Silver Level is $1,000 and your name or company logo will be engraved as a Silver sponsor at the permanent location of the time capsule, The Bronze Level is a contribution of $500 and a name or company logo will be engraved as a Bronze sponsor at the permanent location of the time capsule, plus other promotional material. The Family Level contribution is $250 and your family or individual name will be engraved as a sponsor at the permanent location of the time capsule.
