Scholarship fundraiser:
By Elizabeth Pinkerton - Special to the Citizen
Local high school students will be the winners at the annual scholarship fundraiser “Spotlight Elk Grove.” The event will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursday at the S.E.S. Hall.
“Spotlight Elk Grove” will be focusing on local businesses, allowing visitors to sample offerings from 17 wineries, 25 restaurants and other types of businesses.
The theme of the event is Hollywood, for people who want to dress up like their favorite actor or actress. However, dressing up is not required.
Tickets are available at every Raley’s and Bel Air store within Elk Grove or at the door. Tickets are $40, but all of the food, wine and other offerings in the Hall are free.
All proceeds will go toward the Elk Grove Community Foundation, a non-profit organization that raises money for scholarships for Elk Grove Unified School District students.
The SPOTLIGHT committee, chaired by Marie Coleman, received some help from local residents and businesses with the décor. Local accountant Stan Carrothers donated American flags for the Hall decorations. Councilwoman Sophia Scherman also donated flags that will be in bags, which will be passed out to visitors to remember Sept. 11. Also the Elk Grove Auto Mall assisted with donated flags that will hang on the fences around the Hall. S.E.S. members also helped set up the arrangements for “Spotlight Elk Grove.”
The sponsors for the fourth annual “Spotlight Elk Grove” include Raley’s/ Bel Air, the Elk Grove Commerce Bank, Kaiser Permanente, Jackson Properties, Inc., the city of Elk Grove, Mercy Methodist Hospital of Sacramento, Cosumnes Community Services District and the Elk Grove Citizen.
For more information about the event, contact the Foundation at (916) 685-7118 or visit the Web site at www.egcommunityfoundation.org.
