This is the time of the Green World. No longer does mankind wish to use harmful chemicals that can destroy health, well-being and ecology. Utopia Cleaners, in the Sheldon Crossing Shopping Center at Elk Grove-Florin and Sheldon roads prides itself in organic dry-cleaning, as well as organic laundry.

Owned by Tom Brookhouzen and wife Jeanie Lee, Utopia Cleaners offers many other services, including professional alterations and expert shoe repair.

“At Utopia Cleaners we use Organic Green Earth which is a new ecological dry cleaning system,” Brookhouzen said. “We do not use Perchlorethylene chemicals. The California Air Resources Board has said it would begin setting restrictions on the sale of Perchloroethylene, a potential carcinogen, next year.”

Lee said Utopia Cleaners is also very customer oriented. The spacious lobby has been decorated by Lee and does not have the cluttered appearance of many cleaning establishments.

“We offer free pick up and delivery along with next day service,” she said.

Brookhouzen added that Utopia Cleaners is open every day but Saturday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Lee pointed out Utopia Cleaners also features other customer services, such as consignment designer as well as accessory consignment. She is also an artistic painter and features her work for sale.

“We offer Forever New organic fabric care products for sale,” Brookhouzen said. “And Utopia Cleaners honors 20 percent off cleaning for all civil service employees and for those non-profit organization uniforms, such as police, fire and paramedic personnel.”

Brookhouzen was born in Seoul, Korea and grew up in the Sacramento area. He is a graduate of Elk Grove High School. Before pursuing a career in the dry cleaning business he worked in the agricultural biotech field.

“This helped give me an interest in ecological and health matters,” he said.

Before Utopia Cleaners, Lee helped her mother in a dry cleaning company in Natomas.

The couple lives in Elk Grove.

“Our goal is to serve our customers time and convenience in their daily life with the highest quality and safest of dry cleaning,” Brookhouzen said. “Our service is reliable and our customer satisfaction is absolutely guaranteed. We service businesses and residents in the greater Sacramento area, including five star hotels. We utilize the most efficient organic, environmentally safe green earth dry cleaning available. Utopia Cleaners takes pride in the fact that our dry cleaning solvents do not harm the environment or the health of consumers without compromising quality.”
